A sewer camera inspection sends a small waterproof camera through the building drain and sewer lateral, so you can see roots, cracks, offsets and sagging sections without digging. Call (630) 822-9290 to schedule. Our line is open 24/7, so you can book outside business hours too.
To prepare, make sure the cleanout is reachable and keep water use low during the visit. If the line is currently backing up, treat it as urgent and call right away. A blocked line may need clearing before the camera can pass.
What a camera can and cannot tell you
The camera shows pipe material, joints, cracks, root entry, standing water and breaks. It can tell you where along the line a problem sits by measuring the distance from the cleanout.
It cannot see through a full pipe, and it will not tell you the exact cause of every slow drain in the house. If the line is packed with debris, we clear it first. The inspection is a look at the condition of the pipe, not a repair. We run the camera within the manufacturer's guidelines for cable and head, so we do not force it through a damaged pipe.
The inspection from start to finish
- 1
Access
We open the cleanout or use another access point and set up the camera reel.
- 2
Travel
The camera moves toward the street while a screen shows the pipe live.
- 3
Locate
When the camera finds something, we mark the distance and note the issue.
- 4
Review
You see the footage and hear what each finding likely means.
- 5
Recommendation
We separate what needs action now from what you can watch.
Good times to book an inspection
You do not need a backup to justify a look. These are the situations where the video usually pays for itself.
- Before buying a homeA sewer line is expensive to repair and invisible from the surface. Video lets you negotiate with facts.
- After repeat clogsA line that keeps stopping may have a root mass or a low section that cleaning cannot fix.
- Before a remodel or yard projectKnow where the lateral runs and what shape it is in before you pour concrete over it.
- When you see lawn dips or damp spotsSoil settling above the sewer path can signal a leak underground.
Darien housing age and what to look for
Darien incorporated in 1969, and the Marion Hills, Brookhaven, Farmingdale and Hinsbrook subdivisions grew up through the 1960s. Houses of that period may have original clay tile or cast iron lines, and the joints are where roots enter.
If you are buying in one of those areas, a camera look at the lateral is a sensible step. It tells you the pipe's condition today, which is more useful than guessing from the house's age.

Findings and what usually comes next
| Finding | Meaning | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Clean, round pipe | No visible defects | No work needed, keep the footage |
| Light root hairs | Roots at joints, early stage | Cleaning now, recheck later |
| Heavy root mass | Joints are open and roots have taken hold | Jetting, then discuss repair |
| Belly or standing water | Pipe has sunk, waste settles there | Monitor or replace the low section |
| Cracked or broken pipe | Structural fault | Repair plan, see sewer line repair |
A camera shows condition. It does not predict when a pipe will fail.
Factors behind the inspection price
The price depends on access, line length and whether the pipe needs clearing first. You will hear it before the camera goes in.
Questions about what your inspection would involve? Call (630) 822-9290.
Pairing the camera with other work
Many people book the camera together with cleaning. If the video shows a blockage, sewer line cleaning clears it. If grease or scale coats the wall, hydro jetting scours it, and a second pass of video confirms the result.
Sewer camera questions from Darien homeowners
Yes. Our dispatch line runs 24/7, and we offer same-day appointments when available. Call (630) 822-9290 and tell us when you need the visit.
A typical home often takes under an hour once the access point is open. Longer laterals, heavy debris or a line that needs cleaning first will extend that.
Ask when you book. We can walk you through the footage on site, and many people ask for a copy to share with a buyer, seller or insurer.
It can show a crack or a joint that is seeping into the soil. For leaks in supply piping, see our leak detection service instead.
It is a common step, especially for older homes. The footage gives you real information about the lateral before closing.
