Woodridge is about 4 miles west of our Darien shop, and the drive is usually about 10 minutes. Call (630) 822-9290 at any hour for a sewer backup, a sump pump that has quit, a burst pipe or a water heater leak. The emergency line is open 24/7.
If water is rising from a drain, stop all water use first. Do not run the dishwasher or washer. Keep children and pets out of the basement, and stay away from outlets and appliances near standing water.
Sewer backup in Woodridge: who to call first
The Village of Woodridge asks residents with a sanitary backup of unknown cause to call Public Works so the public sewer line can be inspected. That check tells you whether the problem is the Village main or your own line.
- Weekday hoursThe Village says to call Public Works at 630-719-4753, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Nights and weekendsThe Village says to call 911 and report a Public Works emergency. Then call us at (630) 822-9290 for the plumbing side.
- If the Village main is clearThe blockage is likely in your own line or fixture trap, and we clear it with cable or a hydro jetter.
Do both calls when sewage is on the floor. The Village looks at its main, and we look at everything on your side of the property line.
The first minutes of a Woodridge backup
What you do before help arrives can limit the damage.
- 1
Stop the water
Pause the washer, dishwasher and every tap. Every gallon you add has nowhere to go.
- 2
Keep out of the water
Sewage carries bacteria. Wear boots and gloves if you must cross the floor.
- 3
Raise valuables
Lift boxes and electronics off the slab, away from the floor drain.
- 4
Call us and the Village
Tell dispatch which drains are affected. A toilet and floor drain together point to the main.
- 5
Photograph the damage
Take clear photos for your insurer before cleanup starts.
The June 2021 storm and what it taught about plumbing after damage
An EF-3 tornado struck the Woodridge area on June 20, 2021, just after 11 p.m., and damaged about 225 homes in Woodridge and neighboring suburbs. Storm damage like that can bend supply lines, crack drain stubs and knock water heater vents loose even when the house looks intact.
After any severe storm, shut the main water valve if a wall or roof is open, and keep the gas off if you smell it. Then have a plumber check the water heater, the supply pipes and the drain connections before you restore service. See our burst pipe repair page for what that looks like.
Sump pumps, downspouts and the sanitary sewer
The Village of Woodridge tells residents not to drain sump pump, pool, gutter or downspout water into the sanitary sewer. That water belongs in the storm system or the yard. A sump pump discharging into a basement drain loads the sewer in heavy rain and can push sewage back into homes on the line.
If your pump discharge is plumbed to the wrong place, or the pump is old, our sump pump repair team can reroute and test it. The Village also offers a private sanitary sewer incentive program covering overhead sewers, check valves, gate valves and sump pump installation. It requires a building permit and a licensed plumber, so call the Village first.

Before we arrive in Woodridge
Small preparations speed up the first fifteen minutes.
Between Darien and Village Hall on Plaza Drive
Woodridge Village Hall is at 5 Plaza Drive. Our base at 7879 Lemont Rd in Darien is about 4 miles east and the drive is usually about 10 minutes. After a big storm, expect road closures and standing water that may lengthen it.

Woodridge plumbing questions

Yes. The line at (630) 822-9290 is answered 24/7, including nights and weekends. Same-day appointments are offered when available.
Both when the cause is unknown. The Village says to call Public Works at 630-719-4753 on weekdays and 911 after hours so the public line can be inspected. Call us for your side of the line.
No. The Village says not to drain sump pump, pool, gutter or downspout water into the sanitary sewer. A plumber can reroute the discharge to a permitted location.
As of April 2026 the Village reports an inventory of 10,002 service lines with none identified as lead. The Village's 2025 water quality report still notes homes built before 1986 are more likely to have lead fixtures or solder inside.
The Village says temporary discoloration can follow a Chicago treatment change and to call Public Works so nearby mains can be flushed. If only hot water is rusty, the water heater is a likelier cause and we can flush it.
Ask Woodridge Community Development at 630-719-4750. The Village lists water heaters among permits eligible for same-day service, but rules vary by job. Illinois requires a license for plumbing work. Our installs follow Title 77, Part 890 of the Illinois Administrative Code (the Illinois Plumbing Code) and the manufacturer's installation guidelines.
